Elijah Alston, a resident of Queens, NY, graduated from Robert F. Wagner Secondary School for Arts & Technology.  He is attending Delaware State University majoring in Electrical Engineering.

Elijah has been involved in many community activities including being a member of NAACP Youth.

When discussing what areas of community service/charitable work are most critical, Elijah states:
"Giving back to after school centers and children's facilities are most critical.  This is because the youth is our future and they need a solid foundation to help them become the world's next doctors, engineers, and other important jobs."
Below is an excerpt from his application essay:
"Many people have allowed their circumstances to identify them.  They have forfeited their individuality and become part of a larger misconception of who and what the young black male is or can be.  I have chosen a different route.  My experiences have only made me a stronger individual, emotionally and academically.  I want to become something and someone in life, such as an engineer or even a career relating to Mathematics.  I am motivated to better myself as a person, and also as a student.  I am encouraged to become more of a leader.  I refuse to become another victim to the life in the projects.  Furthering my education is the only way to break the shackles this environment has placed upon me.  I have worked hard to get into college and make a positive difference that will later positively impact others and my community."
We congratulate Elijah and wish him continued success as he embarks on the next phase of his journey.
